| How to Join the GMF The GMF message board and email list is open to anyone who wants to know more about what we do. If you want to become a "voting member" of the organization and enjoy a few extra benefits, read on…
Character Profile Requirement Since the GMF is an organization made up of people exploring the possibility of various science fiction concepts meeting in an unfamiliar universe, what we need is creative input. We have no monetary membership dues. Instead, what we require is a character description and/or sketch.
Basically, imagine yourself to be playing a role of your choosing in your favorite sci-fi show or movie (it has to be completely original, we're not going to allow copyrighted characters like Captain Kirk to meet Darth Vader or anything like that) and write up a dossier and/or back story for that character. For those of you not inclined to write, then artwork is acceptable (a drawing of your character, hopefully accompanied by a short blurb). |
THIS IS A ONE-TIME REQUIREMENT. Once you've made this submission to us, you are an official "Citizen" with all the rights and privileges of any other voting member.
One word of warning, we want creative submissions to be good quality. We're not going to nitpick grammar (though running your work through a spellchecker would be good) nor are we demanding full-length novels. What we DO want is something that can be developed either by you and/or other creative writers in the club. If you're submitting artwork, then we ask you provide something you would be proud to put your name on if it was displayed on our website. To put it simply, no one-line character descriptions and no stick-figure drawings will be accepted.
The benefits of Full Membership: 1. An award ribbon for your submission. We're a military sci-fi organization playing an imaginary armed force in an unexplored universe. Of course we're going to award medals and ribbons! We have a long list of awards that you can view by clicking here.
2. Rank and advancement. Another nice way of rewarding service to the organization and showing how long you've been a member of the GMF is advancement in rank. This is not meant to give people power over others, but helps to enhance the fun of our particular type of club. You start off as an enlisted rate, but with time, participation, and the taking on of certain responsibilities, you can advance to Warrant or even Commissioned Officer status.
3. The opportunity to submit articles to our monthly Newsletter (once we get it started...) and Annual Fanzine. This is a chance to share your creative work with the other members of the club. Members who submit material are also rewarded based on the quality of their submission. Each month, the writer or artist of the best newsletter article or drawing will be awarded the "Silver Quill" and have their work featured in our Fanzine.
4. The chance to portray the character you created in our forum-based RPG and during "In Character" chat meetings. What better way to explore the way different sci-fi genres interact with each other than by role-playing?
5. The chance to participate in our monthly business meetings and vote on all the major issues that come before the club as a whole. While the leadership of the club will likely remain constant, we do believe that YOUR input matters. Every member of the club, from the Space Marshal down to the newest Spaceman Recruit, has one vote on all issues that come before the general membership.
